Drawing and photography never really clicked as an artistic outlet for me,I just wasn't good enough at it.
Woodcarving/toolmaking has opened up a whole new realm of artistic expression for me and I have received my first commission yesterday, an oyster knife for a friends husband!
Having finally finished building my house I have more time for art. My wife and I are also cutting back on screen time (TV and computer) at home so I have actually been spending a lot of time drawing with my 2 year old daughter in a big old sketch book of mine.
Drawing with toddler is actually very freeing of your imagination and there is no such thing as having artists block. You just start drawing, some things you won't like, some things you will, mostly everything will be scribbled on by your little one but that's OK, you shouldn't take your art so seriously that you can't let a drawing get "ruined" by some scribbling and messy colouring!
I do have a sketchbook that I keep for myself as well but I find myself more excited to draw with my daughter than sitting down to do some "serious" sketching.
I am beginning anew on deviantART! I have deleted my old account, bought myself a premium membership to force myself to make more art since I have now sort of spent money to display it and I will force myself to upload one non photo piece per week.
I think this will make me use my sketchbook more, maybe try out some digital art again (just downloaded GIMP again!) and maybe even tackle some painting!
Life is hectic, I am still building a house, with a two year old at home, part time school and a full time job but if I keep waiting for things to slow down I will never do art again!
